Scenario: You’ve been asked to chair your hospital’s newly created interprofessional Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), Research and Quality Improvement (QI) council. You are part of a hospital consortium that includes a large, academic medical center, and a children’s hospital located in the nearest city, about an hour away from you. This community has recently experienced an influx of refugees. There is also a large, state-owned university in that city that has a regional branch in your town. Nursing students from the university have been set up for clinical rotations in the cardiac unit within the hospital. You are assigned to serve as a resource and leader for the students and nursing staff. For this assignment you will construct a 4-5 page paper (use APA 7th edition- student format) to answer the sections below:
Discuss the differences between Quality Improvement, Nursing Research, and Evidence Based Practice. Hint: consider the development of a table to depict the differences.
As the EBP, Research and QI committee gets started, one of the committee’s first tasks is to create guidelines to help you decide whether an issue requires an EBP, nursing research, or QI approach. Discuss why these topics might be challenging to differentiate from one another and then discuss how the nursing staff and students should decide which process(es) to use.
Construct a PICOT question for a topic relating to your work environment OR develop a PICOT question that aligns with the scenario above, with consideration to aspects of diversity, equity or inclusion.
