Learning Goal: I’m working on a nursing discussion question and need a sample draft to help me learn.Question 1:To bridge the gap between healthcare and the LGBTQ+ community, dramatic system changes would need to occur. The stigmatization and discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals are deep rooted in the U.S. and will require a collective and committed effort amongst healthcare providers to combat (Richert, 2019). While special population practitioners have certainly helped, it is the responsibility of all healthcare providers to become educated on the unique needs of the LGBTQ+ community. Education programs could help in this aspect by including LGBTQ+ driven courses to highlight the unique perspective and health needs of the community (Richert, 2019). Every individual, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, deserves the right to equal and comprehensive healthcare. Thus, healthcare providers must set aside their biases and treat the LGBTQ+ individual as they would any other individual.Overall, the healthcare disparities faced by the LGBTQ+ community primarily stem from lack of education and understanding by healthcare providers. This combined with the inherited stigmatization and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community have created multiple barriers for LGBTQ+ individuals to obtain equitable healthcare. To bridge this gap, there would need to be a united effort by all healthcare providers as they take on the responsibility to educate themselves and advocate for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. In the end, we are all human beings and deserve the right to comprehensive healthcare.Question2:Great discussion, Those who are socially disadvantaged experience health disparities as differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or in opportunities to achieve optimal health. Inequalities in health affect older adults as well as other age groups. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention knows that despite improvements in life expectancy and overall health in America in recent years, not every older American is benefiting equally. Factors such as economic status, race, and gender affect older Americans in different ways. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recognizes that this is a growing concern and is attempting to address it in our work. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2017) defines health care disparities as “preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or opportunities to reach your best health that are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations.”. The second article that talks about LGBTQ provides an excellent starting point for educating future SLPs and audiologists on the topic of better serving LGBTQ individuals.Question3: The Center for Medicaid Services recently enacted a policy that barred healthcare facilities with increased re-admission from getting reimbursements and performance-based payment. The readmission rate provides information about the number of patients who have been readmitted within less than 60 days after discharge (Roberts et al., 2018). Increased readmission rate is associated with poor medication compliance, poor follow-up activities, and poor diagnosis, which translates to poor treatment interventions. An increase in readmission rate provides useful data that can be used to detect flaws in healthcare and consequently design an improvement plan (Roberts et al., 2018). On the other hand, a reduced rate of readmissions indicates the improved quality of care. Takeshita et al. (2020) define patient experience as the perception of healthcare consumers towards the quality of healthcare services. Usually, the experience is shaped by the nature of the healthcare workforce. ANP has a role in ensuring both the physical and emotional safety of healthcare consumers. Emotional safety is achieved through showing compassion and respect for the patients’ needs. On the other hand, physical safety is enhanced primarily by preventing medication errors and instead utilizing evidence-based approaches to healthcare (Takeshita et al., 2020). To gather information about patient experience, patient surveys can be used. A positive patient experience acts as an indicator of improved quality of care. The ANP has a central role in promoting health, alleviating suffering, and preventing injuries. To help in monitoring the quality of care, measurement procedures are essential. The rate measurements, including mortality and re-admissions, helps to detect flaws in the healthcare services and consequently design improvement plans. Importantly, the patient surveys provide useful data for evaluating the quality of healthcare services.Question4:very interesting your discussion, like you said before the advanced nurse should operationalize the quality of patient care and should focus on quality aspects for a specific group of patients. For instance, the nurse may focus on patients with leg fractures then define care aspects correlated to effectiveness (Melnyk et al., 2018). The nurse can also operationalize the theoretical concept of patient care by translating it to quality healthcare indicators that require a comprehensive understanding of the context and purpose of measurement. For instance, there is a need to assess patient-centeredness, safety, and effectiveness of care since they relate to different concepts like patient satisfaction, medical errors, and patient health.
