In addition to the handout provided in Readings and Resources, your textbook describes the nine patterns of development in Part 3. After skimming Part 3 (you do not need to read the chapters thoroughly at this time) to become familiar with paragraph types, locate and analyze a paragraph from the Internet. The paragraph can be from a website, article, blog, or another source as long as it is appropriate, has a minimum of five or six sentences, and contains a topic sentence.
To analyze the paragraph you have chosen, follow these instructions. Remember to answer all five in order to get full credit.

Identify paragraph pattern (see 162 of the textbook for the 9 types; they are explained in the chapters following).
Explain why it fits the selected paragraph pattern.
