Now that you have selected your book I want to see which prompt you are planning to answer and what you expect your main argument(s) to be. Remember that you can find the prompts in the overall assignment file here: Primary Source Essay Assignment
Instructions
Part I: Submit a response to Canvas identifying which prompt you are answering and explaining how you plan to address it. Give me a sense of your major arguments. The purpose of this is to make sure that you are addressing all parts of the prompt. Do not just tell me that you will look for examples to answer the prompt, give me a sense of what your specific points will be. If your interpretation changes as you read more of the book, that is no problem.
Part II:
Locate three examples from the book that are relevant to your argument(s). For each of the three examples, first copy/paste or type the example itself. Then cite the source with author and page #. If it is an e-book, location # is fine, but be sure to label it as such. If there are no pages or location #s, email me what your book does have, and we will figure something out. Do not just list author and year or you will lose points.
Then, for each example, explain how it connects to your arguments and what you will use it to show. The idea here is that I want to see that are starting to find relevant examples and you know how they fit into your essay.
If you pick a prompt, start the essay, and realize you do not have as much to say about it as you thought you did, you are free to change your mind. This assignment, however, guarantees that you have spent at least some time thinking about what you plan to do. In addition, if you find better examples later on, you are not obligated to use the examples you included in this assignment.
