Class: COMM 3070 Persuasion.
Persuasive Rhetorical Analysis of Artifact (“Regarding Cocktails” by Sasha Petraske. Using
Feedback from Professor upon presenting artifact of choice:
I love your artifact selection! While it’s not as obviously persuasive as some of the artifacts others have chosen, I think that you could absolutely study it as an example of “Epideictic Rhetoric” (see intro lecture)–as a celebration of a particular way with cocktails, or with drinking in general perhaps (contrast with that Budweiser ad we looked at during the material rhetorics week!) But regardless of how you decide to approach it, the key is to ask: Who is the target audience and what is this artifact trying to persuade them to think/value/do differently? Then figure out which theoretical framework will best allow you to explore *how* it persuades its audience in that way. Ultimately, what can we learn about persuasion by studying this book?
