Response prompt #2: BEGIN publishING YOUR LITERACY NARRATIVE
Last week, we read several sample literacy narratives for homework (via the Digital Archive of Literacy Narratives). Over the next couple weeks, you will compose a rough publish of your own literacy narrative. This does not have to be polished. Instead, it is meant to be an assignment that allows you to experiment with storytelling and multimodality (if you wish). You are also welcome to experiment with multilingual writing.
This narrative may be in whatever form you choose: narrative, photo-essay with captions, poetry, collage, cartoon, digital art, etc. It should be at least 500 words; there is no maximum word count. The only content requirement is that you tell a story related to your own literacy development (with literacy interpreted broadly!). In your last Blackboard post, many of you brainstormed a few different options for this project.
This week, please post a publish-in-progress. This can be an outline, a few paragraphs, a collection of images, a rough publish of a poem, etc., and will look different for everyone.
If you are unsure where to start, here are few prompts:
Narrate an early memory about reading, writing, language, learning, and/or struggling to learn that you recall vividly. Then explain why this event is significant to you now.
Describe someone who taught you a skill, and explain their significance in your life.
Identify a book, film, musical album, or other text and tell a story about how it shaped you.
Tell a story from your experience in school or another institutional/community setting, touching on the language/literacy practices you were exposed to there.
Describe a memento and explain how it represents an important moment in your reading/writing/learning/communicating.
