Most people we will assist are of cultures and ethnicities different from our own. Our population is diverse. This week’s readings address the importance of establishing a therapeutic relationship with clients that incorporates a client’s diversity and culture. Relational Cultural Theory gives a theoretical framework for doing so.
For this initial response:
Discuss your thoughts on the importance of relationships with persons of diverse cultures other than your own in social work practice. Support your thoughts with examples from your own professional experience. You may also describe professional experiences you expect to have in the future.
How is Relational Cultural Theory important to your practice with a client of a culture other than your own?

Read the Gregory & Clary article “Addressing Anti-Black Racism: The Roles of Social Work”. Reflect on the significance of the information for your professional self. How have your thoughts changed regarding structural racism? More specifically, how have your views changed on the role social work plays in addressing structural racism?
