This week we began our inquiry into the complex relation between media and culture. We read about three critical concepts that were developed by French anthropologist and theorist Pierre Bourdieu — Habitus, Field, and Capital. In consideration of these concepts and the innovative ways in which they allow us to examine the struggle for position taking in the cultural field, and in effect in society at large, we viewed the films Miss Representation and Half the Picture.
Provide your reaction to the perpetual struggle among players and forces in the field of cultural production and the ways in which the circulation of media texts around the world sustain the subordinate position of women in our society/ies.
