Prompt: Write a final essay that reflects on the significance of applying theory (a “lens”) from prior course readings to the ethnography by Keisha-Khan Perry (Black Women Against the Land Grab). Discuss how certain theoretical lenses “change, update, modify, alter, inform, and/or refute an initial reading and/or interpretation” of specific passages from the book (). This means drawing on “lenses” from other course readings to re-interpret Perry’s research. The majority of this analysis will happen in the body paragraphs, which will include both specific ethnographic details from Perry and a discussion of how a “lens” from another course reading shapes your view of them. The introduction paragraph will lay out an overview of what’s to come and the conclusion paragraph will re-state in more abstract terms how you see the “lenses” reframing/changing/altering your reading of Perry’s ethnography.

– Ethnographic Detail: You should reference and cite at least 3 specific passages or vignettes from Black Women Against the Land Grab or the article by Keisha-Khan Perry (cited and quoted and/or summarized). These should be found primarily in body paragraphs, less so in your Introduction or Conclusion paragraphs.
– Use of Additional Theory or “Lenses”: Each body paragraph should have at least one reference to a “lens” from an author OTHER THAN PERRY. Use at least THREE additional lenses, each from a different reading or chapter, in a way that supports your overall thesis.
